Emotion: an affective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear, hate, or the like, is experienced, as distinguished from cognitive and volitional states of consciousness. (Dictionary.com)
True enough, God gave us emotions... for us to feel the enjoyment of his wonders. But once you get away from God and His word, that's when the enemy is able to attack! I recently had this experience. You get so wrapped up in what's "going on" you start feeling like you don't want to read the Bible, pray, etc. It's all a tactic the enemy uses to distract you! That's when he's able to come in and use your emotions to his advantage and hurt you, make you depressed, angry, sad--all that! And when you act off of emotions... you do things, say things and act in ways that you will regret later on. It's about having a mindset of walking in love. Moreover, check your heart! You can say "I walk in love," and what shows on the outside may display that, but your mind could be the devil's playground. You may subconsciously be wishing someone the worse.
Mark 14:32-35 shows how even Jesus was attacked through his emotions, and what Jesus did to overcome those emotions and manage to get on the cross, die, and go to Hell for OUR sins. So what did Jesus do? Mark 14:35 "And he went forward a little, and fell onto the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him." Just moving forward A LITTLE makes a difference.
Smile a little, laugh a little, praise a little, moving forward a little...just don't go backwards! And focusing on God...man oh man... how quickly He will bring you back to a sense of peace. There is nothing like the agape love of God... that unconditional, through thick and thin love.
